6 - Let's be Realistic

Joking aside, my real New Year's resolution is to update this here comic every week. I've been looking into hosting options because I want to set up a real website with ComicPress and a non-blogspot.com URL. Does anyone have any experience with any web hosting providers? Some of them look shady and I don't want to fork over $100 a year for some sort of scam.

My secondary resolution (more of a goal, actually) is to have 100 loyal readers (ie. at least that many readers per week) by the end of the year. Right now, from the traffic stats (that's right - I've been watching you - Bwhahaha...), I estimate about 30 loyal readers. If that's you, then

    while (true) {
        System.out.println("Thank You!");
        // If you're reading this more than 3 times, stop.
        // Or should I say "break;"
        // It's an infinite loop, you smart-ass.
    }

(For my non-computer savvy readers, I just thanked you. A lot.)

Anyway, to those of you reading this, thanks for reading and I hope to see you back next year for more comics. And believe me, I've got some really funny ones planned.

5 - Three "Wise" Women

I would like to apologize to all my women readers (Hi Mom!) - if you're still reading. I do not believe any of the above stereotypes. It just came to mind as I was thinking of Christmas comics. Allow me to clear things up:
  • Not all woman are bad at directions. In fact, as you can see above, at least 2 of the women seem to know that they're going in the wrong direction.
  • About the tooltip... Women do not belong in the kitchen - unless they want to (like a chef or something). Take into consideration the time period we're talking about here. This was thousands of years ago when things like this were socially accepted.
  • Men are filthy, disgusting pigs.
I hope that last point makes up for everything and we can put this behind us.

Moving on, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas (Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings, etc) and I hope to see everyone back here next week for a non-sexist comic.

4 - A Comic for a Menorah-ty

If you're looking for a joke, there isn't one. Well, not a very good one, anyway. It's more of a thought that I decided to flesh out.

This week's comic goes out to all my Jewish readers, which is at least one of you. Happy Chanukah! If you're a member of the Jew Crew, speak up in the comments or forever hold your... Judaism. I'm not a member - I belong to the Christian Crowd - I'm just curious.

A Charlie Brown Christmas was my favourite Christmas special growing up. I've practically memorized it over the years. A few of my favourite moments:

  • There's the intimate moment between Lucy and Snoopy:

  • Of course there's the iconic moment on which this comic is based:

  • I also love the part at the end where they all gather around Snoopy's house and wave their hands in the air. Then they move over to the tree, wave their hands again and magically make foliage appear where before there was none (the good part is 2:00-2:32):

Watching it again this year, I started thinking about how there aren't any Chanukah specials (that I'm aware of), which I imagine must suck. That got me thinking of what a Peanuts Chanukah special would look like and the comic was born. I had more in my head, but I thought this worked better as is. The rest was pretty much the same except the Christmas tree was replaced with a menorah. So, just imagine that and you've got A Charlie Brown(stein) Chanukah. Though, I somehow doubt that the commercialization of Chanukah is really a problem, but it could explore other themes.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this week's Chanukah comic. I hope I didn't offend anyone. I don't know how I would have, but it's always a possibility when religion is involved. Next week - a subject I know more about - Christmas. Hopefully, it'll turn out as funny as what I have in my head.

3 - Mario IRL

This one is my favourite so far - especially the 4th panel. Something about Mario thinking he's a dinosaur or something makes me giggle.

This comic also took a loooong time to do. Believe it or not, it started out as a single panel. Then it grew to two... then three... and eventually eleven.

P.S.: Sorry about the low resolution. Google likes to compress it when it's over a certain size. *sigh* I guess that's what free gets you. Oh well.

2 - PC PWNS Mac

This comic started out with me coming in and beating both of them with a bat, but then I thought I could do better than that. Then it became PC beating Mac with a bat, but then I thought where would he hide a bat? So I just had PC shoot Mac. It was easier to draw and I'm lazy.

Before I go any further, let me say that I own both a Mac and a PC, and I even occasionally use Linux. But I hate Mac vs PC commercials. Don't get me wrong, I love my Mac (I also love my PC - Windows 7 FTW!), but I just can't stand those ads. I swear every single commercial break (yeah, I still watch TV) there are at least 2 of them played. It drives me insane.

I realize that I'm probably in the minority here, but to me they're just Apple propaganda designed to brainwash the uninformed masses that "Mac rules, Windows drools".

And "Mac vs PC"? Last time I checked, a Mac was a PC thank-you-very-much. As I like to say, that's like saying "Apples vs Fruit".

The other thing that gets me is that for a commercial that's supposed to make me want to buy a Mac, they don't ever seem to tell me why, except for "Windows sucks" (not in my opinion, but anyway...). At least Microsoft's ad campaigns (with the exception of the laptop hunter commercials - let's not go there) show/tell me why I should buy Windows. Oh - and they have a secret weapon. Her name is Kylie and she's 4 and a 1/2:

New RSS Feed

I redirected the RSS feed through Feedburner. That way I should be able to tell how many people have subscribed. Unfortunately, you'll have to unsubscribe from the old one and subscribe to the new one.

So please update your feed readers to point to this new location: http://feeds.feedburner.com/RightBrainComics. If you don't, you won't be able to read tomorrow's comic. And that makes me a sad panda. :(

Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.

1 - A Different Perspective

A Different Perspective

So, this is my first comic. What d'ya think? I decided to start doing this because it sounded fun and, like the sidebar says, I needed a way to use the right side of my brain for a change. I've enjoyed it so far. I already have a bit of a buffer - one more finished and two more half finished ones. I just wanted to make sure that it was realistic to do one a week. Turns out it is.

This particular comic took me a few hours, but I got it done in one sitting. The next one is much more complex and took several days. I think it was worth it though. We'll see...
